A documentary about the production process of a jazz film is already in itself a musical. Perhaps without the alternatives of an argument that could be dramatic or romantic, according to the usual characteristics of musical films, but music leads us to create our own story.
"Extremely Personal Documentary", the film by Ogulcan Atayol, is a marvel that allows us to see how jazz works, in this case Turkish jazz. And I do not know if it is relevant to mention the ethnicity, although it exists. I heard many times Latin jazz. Because jazz is itself an eclectic movement that hosts both the Miles Davis of "Kind of Blue", the bossa nova, Astor Piazzolla, or so many others so diverse. Jazz is vast.
What we are going to see and hear is the recording process of the Turkish jazz album Aristo'ya Inat (Contra Aristotle) by musician Nilufer Akdogu. The film itself recalls influences even from Pink Floyd.
Ogulcan Atayol, born in Izmir and studied undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Photography. Worked as a cinematographer on several short films and in the camera, editing and lighting departments. Directed several digital audiovisual content projects.
It is very nice to hear about jazz in Turkey, where the film industry has grown so much lately. The documentary is highly recommended.
