"My Little Sentry" is a 15-minute short that deservedly won an award at a film festival held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last December. Directed by the Brazilian Lucas Marques, in a splendid black and white, the film shows an exceptional poetic structure. He reminded me a lot of Tarkovsky by the use of light and sound, in some unforgettable images.

In a remote farm, Dalva (Marina Azze) lives among dry branches and quiet afternoons, waiting for the return of Antônio, her only son, sent to war. When the radio announces the death of Hitler and the end of the conflict, the world seems to exhale; but instead of relief, Dalva is plunged into a whirlwind of memories. The last words exchanged with his son, and the many that remained unsaid, resonate in his mind like voices in an empty field. In a time where past and present are blurred, Dalva watches the way with eyes full of hope and longing.

Marques is a Brazilian born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1985. He is a director, screenwriter, cinematographer and editor. With 18 years of career, he has more than a dozen films in his filmography. This one is magnificent.
