Singara Mohan, Director of Kaalamega Karigindhi. - Interview

Are you interested in the relevance of music in cinema?
Being a Filmmaker from India, I see music as a part of cinema and as a part of story telling. I show a lot of interest in the relevence of music because I even use songs as story beats too.

Did you study film?
I am with no film school background but studied cinma enough, thanks to the internet. Growing up watching cinema was also a great learning process for me.

What was your first foray into cinema?
A short film titled A Date in the Dark is something that pushed me much to tell stories in dark rooms (theatres)

Are you interested in cinema as art, industry or entertainment?
Cinema is something that has a great power to emote the people, only art can emote the audience. For me cinema is purely an art form that exists on the earth planet to move the audience without any physical force.

In which category does your film intervene at this festival?
We have submitted our film under the following categories:
Best Film soundtrack on any subject.
Best original song.
Best direction.
Better sound effects.

Do you have projects in progress?
Have been working on a couple of lines which are yet to be materialized.

Do you recognize influences in your work?
Yeah I find a lot people being in love with my work. Despite being Kaalamega Karigindhi being my debut film, I find a great reception for the film right from critics to general audience.

How do you get financing?
There are a lot of traditional production houses here in india to which we can approach and present our content to get the production budget.

Do you see the cinema as a definitive profession or only occasionally venture?
I am fully into filmmaking and and it is my definitive profession.

What is your concept of cinema that interests you?
I prefer art cinema which can emote audience only through story telling rather than heavy action based cinema. I love my aesthetical sensibilities and musical texture of my films.
